Dr. Ray has helped pioneer gender-affirming surgery in Los Angeles and serves as the Lead Plastic Surgeon in Southern California's first comprehensive academic transgender surgery and health program. He performs all types of chest surgery and works with the genital reconstruction team to perform phallourethroplasty.

He has pioneered the use of the 3D video microscope in plastic surgery, and was the first surgeon to use this device to perform a free flap phallourethroplasty, followed shortly after by the first gender-affirming bilateral free flap breast reconstruction in a transgender patient.
